Glock worried about Virgin?s form

Timo Glock believes Virgin Racing risks failing to qualify for forthcoming grand prix events this year unless significant improvements are made to the performance of their cars. Virgin was optimistic during pre-season testing that its performance had improved after a difficult debut season in Formula 1. Yet both Glock and new team-mate Jerome D'Ambrosio could only qualify on the back row for the Australian Grand Prix after struggling badly for pace.

Davey Hamilton will join Dreyer & Reinbold for a three-event IndyCar Series campaign this year. Fernando Alonso and Michael Schumacher have dismissed fears that drivers could become distracted by the amount of time spent operating systems such as KERS and the adjustable rear wings on their steering wheels in 2011. Sandt, who represents the Pennsylvania Sim Racing Club, took home two wins in two online racing starts to record 186 points for his efforts at the USA International Speedway in Lakeland, Florida. Audi frustrated by incidents

Audi is confident that its R15 TDI had the speed to win the Sebring 12 Hours but for the incidents that delayed both its cars. The #1 car of Mike Rockenfeller, Romain Dumas and Timo Bernhard suffered two punctures in close succession in the early hours, the first due to running over debris, and the second after bodywork rubbed on the tyre. Allan McNish, Dindo Capello and Tom Kristensen were fighting the Peugeots for victory until Marc Gene's 908 collided with Capello, ending both cars' shot at the win.

AFS picks Matos for IndyCar move

Raphael Matos has sealed a late deal to return to the IndyCar Series with his former Indy Lights team AFS Racing. The Brazilian lost his seat with De Ferran Dragon Racing, where he had spent the first two years of his IndyCar career, last winter, with the team initially dropping him for Tony Kanaan before ultimately closing its doors. But Matos has been thrown a lifeline by Gary Peterson's AFS team, which is graduating to IndyCar as an independent operation for the first time after being an occasional co-entrant with Andretti Autosport in the past.

Edwards confident about new tyre

Bristol polesitter Carl Edwards seems confident he will be able to replicate his qualifying pace in Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race after running Goodyear's new choice of right-side tyres during Saturday's practice. Teams tested a new tyre specification during the two practice sessions of the day at Bristol Motor Speedway, following NASCAR's decision to change the right-sides after excessive wear led to concerns for Sunday's race. Goodyear had introduced a new compound for this weekend which was softer than what was used at Bristol last summer, but it failed to rubber-in the track, compounding the early wear issues.

Lorenzo hails practice breakthrough

Jorge Lorenzo declared himself much happier with his Yamaha after Thursday practice in Qatar, even though he was only seventh. The MotoGP world champion had been downcast following the end of the Losail test, feeling he had no chance of getting near the front in the season-opener. HRT pair focus on mileage in Australia

The Hispania drivers say all they are looking for from the season-opening weekend in Melbourne is an opportunity to put some miles on their untried new car. The F111 was launched on the penultimate day of winter testing last week, but was unable to get any mileage as its dampers were not released by customs in time. Although that means it will not make its debut until practice in Australia, Tonio Liuzzi and Narain Karthikeyan are optimistic that the car is enough of an improvement to take the team forward despite its lack of mileage.
