Yamaha ?refreshed? after Rossi?s exit
Yamaha boss Lin Jarvis says the departure of Valentino Rossi has allowed the team to 'refresh' itself - and that the squad will be a more cohesive unit in 2011 with Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies. After seven hugely successful seasons at Yamaha, Rossi left for Ducati at the end of last year, with Spies promoted from the satellite Tech 3 team to take his place alongside new world champion Lorenzo. With Rossi's crew following him to Ducati and Spies bringing his own team of mechanics with him, Yamaha has a different look for 2011, but Jarvis believes the change will be good for the team

Novikov plans cautious return
World Rally Championship returnee Evgeny Novikov insists he will drive cautiously when he rejoins the series for next week's Rally Mexico. Montoya: Vegas Indy run unlikely
Juan Pablo Montoya thinks it would be logistically impossible for him to attempt to win the IndyCar Series' $5 million bonus at Las Vegas on the same weekend as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Charlotte in October. The Colombian, who races full-time in Cup for multiple IndyCar title winning team owner Chip Ganassi, has been tipped as one of the favourites to run for the prize that IndyCar is offering for any driver from outside its series who can win the season finale.

The lack of Formula 1 experience in Sauber's driver line-up will not be detrimental to the team's development efforts, technical director James Key insists, as he praised Kamui Kobayashi's efforts to step up into a team leader role already. Trevor Bayne Says He's Sticking With Nationwide Championship Run

Whoever wins the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup series championship, his name won't be Daytona 500 champ Trevor Bayne.
The 20-year-old rookie, who became the youngest winner of the Daytona 500 Sunday, said he's sticking with his original plan for the season -- a full-time Nationwide series run for the championship and a part-time Sprint Cup campaign.
"I think I am going to stay with Nationwide," Bayne said Tuesday on the weekly NASCAR teleconference. "Nothing has really changed for me other than that I am the Daytona 500 champion, which is really incredible.
"I think we are still going to have an awesome year for Roush Fenway running for that Nationwide championship. Obviously we still have a blank car and I would love to get some partners on it, but as of now we are still running for it full time over there. I am still not full-time Cup and I am going to run for the championship in Nationwide. I don't regret any of our decisions there."
Bayne will also run at least 17 more races in Sprint Cup for the Wood Brothers.
As they have for the past several years and for most of their long and storied history in NASCAR, the Wood Brothers are running only a partial schedule.

STPC Kicks Off Late Model Season
Sunday, February 13th� saw the Short Track Pro Cup series kick-off its new online racing season in the Late Models at USA Speedway.� In three separate skill- matched divisions the green flag dropped at 9:15pm EST with some great drivers lined up for the challenge. Stoner leads first day at Sepang
The works Honda team continued with its strong showing in pre-season testing, with Casey Stoner setting the pace on the opening day of running at Sepang on Tuesday. The Australian posted the quickest time with a lap of 2m00.987s, outpacing team-mate Dani Pedrosa by nearly four tenths of a second. Stoner resumed testing with the same set-up he had used on the final day in the first test, and spent the day alternating between the two chassis options he had at his disposal.

Cunningham gets IndyCar break
Former Indy Lights champion Wade Cunningham will join the IndyCar Series for a partial campaign with Sam Schmidt Motorsports this year. The deal marks the first time since 2002 that Schmidt's team - which has won four Lights titles - contests an IndyCar round outside the Indianapolis 500, with Cunningham choosing to enter the double-header Texas event plus the Kentucky and Las Vegas rounds but not Indy, where he has won three times in Lights.

Rosberg tops Barcelona day three
Nico Rosberg put Mercedes on top with a rapid late lap in a Barcelona testing session that began wet before later drying. A shower at the start of the morning and a combination of high humidity and low temperatures meant it was not until the eve of the lunchbreak that drivers were able to try slick tyres, and even then conditions remained treacherous, with lap times five seconds off yesterday's fully-dry pace even on slicks. But by the afternoon only a few off-line damp patches remained, and Rosberg made the most of the clear running to go quickest with a 1m23.168s on a single-lap, qualifying-style, run with a quarter of an hour to go.

Late Wreck Stops Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s Storybook Daytona 500 Ending

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s shoulders may well have borne 500 miles worth of expectations this week at Daytona.
Marking 10 years since the death of his legendary father in NASCAR's most important race, Earnhardt Jr. served as the central beacon of a sport remembering the passing of one of its most legendary drivers.
The sport's most popular driver also has been the most talked about non-factor for most of the last three seasons and has seen his share of changes in the Hendrick Motorsports program around him. A new crew chief -- Steve Letarte -- was in his ear.
Sunday, none of it seemed to be a distraction as Earnhardt sliced his way through the field time and again to find the front -- and occasionally lead -- one of the most unusual Daytona 500s in recent memory.
However, the chaotic nature of NASCAR's season-opening beast, a race marked by the most cautions and lead changes in the event's 53-year history, finally caught up with Earnhardt moments from the end.

FOG loses ?F1? trademark fight
A European court has rejected Formula One Group's attempt to get exclusive rights to the "F1" abbreviation as a trademark. The General Court in Luxembourg, Europe's second-highest court, said on Thursday that "Formula One Licensing cannot prevent the registration of a (European) Community trademark containing the words 'F1 LIVE'." "There is no likelihood of confusion between the mark applied for and Formula One Licensing's marks, given the low degree of similarity between the marks and the descriptive character that the public attributes to the abbreviation 'F1'," the ruling said

Latvala crash ends Ford Portugal test
Ford factory driver Jari-Matti Latvala has crashed Ford's test Fiesta in Portugal this morning [Thursday] bringing the team's four-day session to a premature end. Precise details of the accident remain unclear but it's the Finn's second shunt in succession after he also crashed the test car prior to the start of the season in Sweden late last month Latvala recovered from his pre-Rally Sweden accident by finishing third on the World Rally Championship opener last weekend, but this latest accident will cost Ford valuable time and data as it prepares for the first gravel outing of the season in Mexico early next month.
