Sato first out of Indy 500

Takuma Sato has become the first retirement from the Indianapolis 500 after crashing out on lap 21. The KV Racing driver had been running on the cusp of the top 10 before sliding into the wall at Turn 2 in a relatively light impact. Sato will be registered as the first official retirement of the race, but Simona de Silvestro (HVM) and Paul Tracy (Dreyer & Reinbold) had already been into the pits for attention after brushing the wall

FIA agrees to Monaco tunnel DRS ban

Formula 1 drivers will be banned from using the DRS in the tunnel at this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix after the FIA reacted to drivers' concerns on Monday, AUTOSPORT can reveal. On the back of continued fears from drivers that it could be too dangerous to use the DRS through the tunnel in practice and qualifying, FIA race director Charlie Whiting wrote to the Grand Prix Drivers' Association members on Monday to tell them he agreed with their stance. Williams technical director Sam Michael insists that the team is seeking clarity on whether or not 'hot-blowing' exhaust blown diffusers are legal, rather than pushing for the system to be banned. Williams played a part in triggering FIA technical delegate Charlie Whiting's decision to ban the system in the build-up to this race, a move that was subsequently put on hold subject to Technical Working Group discussions next month. But despite believing that the concept, in which the exhaust continues to be blown while the driver is off the throttle to maximise downforce under braking and at corner entry, is illegal, the team is willing to continue to develop its system if the FIA deems it permissible.

Jason Bright and Brad Jones Racing took their second win of the V8 Superscars season with a stunning charge on an alternative strategy in race two at Winton. FIA bans Ferrari?s new rear wing

Ferrari has been told by the FIA that it cannot continue to run with a new design of rear wing, after the governing body deemed it to be in breach of the technical regulations. The Maranello-based team's cars featured a higher than normal flap extension on their rear wings in Friday practice in Spain - which the FIA had been looking at closely to work out whether it should be allowed under the rules. Although the wing was theoretically too high, Ferrari had tried to exploit an area in the rules relating to slot-gap separators ? which are not taken into consideration when measuring the wings.
